Umeed Success Stories
For 7 to 8 years, Didi, known by the alias Reshma, has navigated the challenging profession that takes her daily from Ambernath to Mumbai. Amidst the grind, life threw additional challenges her way—she’s not just a professional; she’s been undergoing ART treatment for the past 6 months.
With three children to care for, stress became a constant companion. Travelling daily on an empty stomach, she could barely afford more than a cup of tea due to a shrinking clientele. Her health deteriorated visibly, marked by the emergence of skin infections and a general sense of unwellness.
About two months ago, Reshma’s narrative took a turn when she joined the partnered meal programs. Since that day, she has embraced daily nutrition services with unwavering commitment, never missing a meal. The impact has been tangible—Reshma, once struggling to maintain her health, now diligently follows her ART medication schedule. The skin infections, once a source of distress, have notably receded.

Udaan Success Stories
In July, Naina joined Nerul shelter home, continuing her schooling at the 5th grade level. However, a consultation with her former teacher at Turbhe center revealed a stark reality—Naina’s school attendance had been inconsistent due to frequent trips to her village.
As a result, she needed to rebuild her educational foundation, starting from the basics, including alphabets and numbers in both Hindi and English.
But Naina’s story doesn’t end there. Alongside her were two younger beneficiaries, aged 5 to 10 years, also residing at the shelter. Recognizing an opportunity for mutual growth, Naina was entrusted with a special task: to teach the younger ones the alphabet (A to Z) and numbers (1 to 30), both in words and digits.
This initiative served a dual purpose. It not only accelerated the younger beneficiaries’ learning curves but also instilled in Naina a sense of responsibility and a love for education.
Remarkably, Naina embraced her role as a mentor with enthusiasm. She made learning a joyful experience, using creative methods like counting aloud while walking in a “train” formed by the shelter’s dining and study hall chairs.
Naina’s journey at Nerul shelter home exemplifies the transformative power of education and mentorship. She has become an inspiring guide, paving the way for younger minds to flourish in an environment of care and learning.
Priti, one of the beneficiaries at Nerul shelter home, is currently excelling in the 8th grade. Ever since transferring from Turbhe Centre, her passion for sports has been consistent and remarkable. She actively participates in Kabaddi and the 100-meter running events, harbouring dreams of pursuing a career in sports. Her dedication led to her appointment as the captain of her school’s Kabaddi team for the under-14 categories.
During the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Inter-School competition, Priti, alongside three other beneficiaries, represented her school in events like Running, Throw Ball, and Kabaddi. Priti’s standout performance came in the 100-meter race, where she secured a place after excelling in the qualifying rounds. This experience was not only valuable for Priti but also provided exposure and essential life lessons for all the beneficiaries involved.
Priti’s achievement was noteworthy as she clinched the third position in the 100-meter running event. Her joy and determination are palpable, driving her to strive even harder in the future.
Throughout her journey, Priti received vital support and encouragement from AAWC. The organization ensured she had adequate nutrition, which played a crucial role in enhancing her performance and maintaining her overall well-being.
